The evaluation of banana cv. BRS Tropical under irrigation has showed that this cultivar has relevant vegetative growth and behaves different from others cultivars like Prata Anã and Grand Naine concerning water requirements. This work had as objective to evaluate the effect of five different irrigation levels taken below total irrigation on yield of banana crop cv. BRS Tropical under conditions of Coastal Tableland of Bahia Reconcavo in the Northeast of Brazil. The experiment followed a random block design with five treatments or irrigation levels and four replica-tions. The experiment was carried during two cycles of the crop (2008 to 2009). Treatments consisted of fractions of water required for replenishment of plant losses since last irrigation by a sprayer system. Fractions of irrigation levels corresponded to: T1- 1.06; T2- 0.81; T3- 0.59; T4- 0.35 e T5- 0.12 of the calculated water depth by the used criteria for Prata Anã and Grand Naine cultivars. Results showed no significant difference among treatment yields by Tukey test, however treatments T1, T2 and T3 had yield variables more close with a maximum difference from the highest yield of 17%. Treatments T4 and T5 had smaller yields with difference of 23 and 26% from the highest yield. Growth variables showed significant difference among treatments. There was no difference of growth variables among treatments T1, T2 and T3, but these ones differed from T4 and T5. It is possible to reduce up to 41% of the irrigation water without losing yields for banana cv. BRS Tropical that indicate its strong drought tolerance. MenosThe evaluation of banana cv.
